Test Roasts

Test Roasts - Specialty Coffee Beans 1kg

Specialty coffee from our roastery – the same care, just a different purpose. These 1kg Test Roast bags come from the coffees we use every day for profiling, development and blend trials.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a working roastery, this is your way in.

What are Test Roasts?

  • Specialty coffee beans roasted during profiling and development
  • 1kg sealed bags from our working roastery
  • Sourced, roasted and handled to the same standards as our main range
  • Offered as part of our commitment to reducing waste

Every week at our Stafford roastery, we’re dialling in new coffees, refining roast profiles and trialling blends. It’s the work that ensures everything on our shelves tastes exactly as it should.

Along the way, we produce coffees that are excellent, but don’t quite land in our core lineup. That might be a development roast, a blend trial, or a batch that sits slightly outside our ideal window for a named release.

Rather than letting that coffee go to waste, we make it available here.

Pick your coffee - or go Lucky Dip

Where possible, we’ll tell you exactly what’s in the bag - just select from the dropdown above.

Prefer a surprise? Choose the Lucky Dip coffee option and we’ll send you a randomly selected bag. It’s a great way to explore a range of coffees and profiles from across the roastery.

If there are coffees you’d rather avoid (for example, natural or anaerobic), leave us a note at checkout and we’ll do our best to match your preferences.

Why choose Test Roasts?

  • An accessible way to explore specialty coffee
  • Ideal for everyday brewing across filter, cafetière or espresso
  • A rotating selection of different coffees and profiles
  • Supports waste reduction within the roastery

Think of these as your daily workhorse coffees – consistent, versatile and always interesting.

Good coffee, less waste

As a certified B Corp, reducing waste is part of how we work. Every coffee represents months of effort at origin, and we believe it deserves to be enjoyed.

Test Roasts are our way of making sure that great coffee – even when it doesn’t fit neatly into a named release – still finds its way into the cup.

The producers behind these coffees are paid the same, the quality is still there, and the roasting is done with the same care. This is simply a different route to enjoying it.

A few things worth knowing

  • Whole beans only. You’ll need a grinder to get the best from these coffees.
  • Sealed 1kg bags. Packed at the roastery just like our main range.
  • Coffee age. Typically 4+ weeks off roast but still tasting great.
  • Ever-changing selection. Availability depends on what we’re roasting each week.
