Grinder Seasoning Beans

Coffee Grinder Seasoning Beans (Break In Burrs Properly)

Season your coffee grinder burrs without wasting your good beans. These grinder seasoning beans are designed specifically for breaking in new burrs and improving grind consistency. Not for brewing or consumption.

Got new coffee grinder burrs to break in? These are for you.

New burrs need around 2-10kg of coffee run through them before they hit their stride. Rather than waste your best brewing coffee on the process (or settle for stale supermarket beans), we put our spare roastery coffee to work as dedicated seasoning beans.

What are grinder seasoning beans?

  • Roasted coffee beans used to season coffee grinder burrs
  • Help break in new burrs and smooth sharp edges
  • Improve grind consistency and reduce fines
  • Not intended for brewing or drinking

How to season your coffee grinder burrs

  1. Run 2–10kg of seasoning beans through your coffee grinder
  2. Start with a coarse grind setting, then gradually go finer
  3. Discard the grounds (do not brew)
  4. Once complete, switch to your regular coffee and dial in as normal

This is a mix of whatever coffee we’ve got available that isn’t going to make it onto the shelf. QC rejects, roast batches that didn’t quite land, end-of-line stock, and sample leftovers all go into one big blend.

It’s all been properly roasted in our Probats in Staffordshire - it just doesn’t meet the standard we’d put our name to for drinking coffee.

As a certified B Corp, reducing waste is part of how we do things. Rather than sending perfectly usable coffee to landfill, we give it a second life as coffee grinder seasoning beans.

Why use seasoning beans instead of your regular coffee?

  • Avoid wasting high-quality brewing coffee
  • More cost-effective for breaking in burrs
  • Designed specifically for grinder seasoning
  • Supports waste reduction

Run it through your coffee grinder, pop the grounds in your compost or food waste bin, and get on with brewing the good stuff.

A few things to note:

  • This is an unlabelled mix of coffees (contents vary batch to batch)
  • We don’t recommend brewing it
  • This coffee is for seasoning grinder burrs only. It is not intended for consumption.
  • Available while stocks last
